Faith as the Foundation for Healing

When facing the effects of PTSD or CPTSD, it’s natural to feel overwhelmed or discouraged. During these times, our faith can be a source of comfort and strength. Scripture reminds us in Isaiah 41:10: “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

These words remind us that even in our darkest moments, God is with us, offering His unwavering support. Healing from PTSD and CPTSD is a journey that can feel daunting, but with the right tools—both spiritual and therapeutic—you can find relief from the weight of trauma.

Understanding PTSD and CPTSD

PTSD typically occurs after a single traumatic event, while Complex PTSD (CPTSD) often results from prolonged, repeated trauma, such as childhood abuse or long-term emotional or physical harm. Both conditions can lead to overwhelming symptoms, such as flashbacks, hypervigilance, dissociation, and difficulty regulating emotions.

If you’ve been living with PTSD or CPTSD, you may feel trapped in the past or emotionally distant from yourself and others. Your nervous system may be in a constant state of alert, leaving you exhausted and overwhelmed. These are all valid responses to trauma, but they don’t have to define your future. With the right approach, you can heal and reclaim your life.

What is Written Exposure Therapy (WET)?

Written Exposure Therapy (WET) is a brief, structured, trauma-focused treatment designed to help people with PTSD and CPTSD process their trauma safely. Through guided writing, you’ll explore your traumatic memories allowing your brain and body to begin to process and release the intense emotions tied to them. By revisiting your trauma in a controlled way, WET can help reduce symptoms such as flashbacks, intrusive thoughts, though distortions, and emotional numbness.

WET is especially helpful for those who find talking about their trauma overwhelming. Writing offers a safe, manageable way to confront these memories without feeling emotionally flooded. Over time, this process can help you regain a sense of control and inner peace.

Integrating Faith with WET for a Deeper Healing

In this faith-based healing program, we integrate your faith into the healing process, ensuring that both your emotional and spiritual needs are supported. Written Exposure Therapy becomes even more powerful when combined with the strength and peace that come from your relationship with God.

Each writing session will be guided by the intervention curriculum and specific prompts over the course of 5-8 weeks, but it will also be grounded in faith. We will look to scripture, prayer, and reflection to guide you through your healing journey. Verses like Psalm 46:1—*“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble”—*will remind you that God is with you in the midst of your struggle.

As you move through the WET process, we will invite God into each session through prayer and reflection, allowing you to draw on both His love and your inner resilience. This is about more than just addressing the trauma—it’s about rediscovering your identity in Christ and learning to live a life of peace and purpose, free from the hold of PTSD and CPTSD.
